The Sandoz logo blotter art is a tribute to the company Sandoz AG, a pharmaceutical company that is responsible for the discovery of LSD. Sandoz AG started as “Chemiefirma Kern und Sandoz” (“Kern and Sandoz Chemistry Firm”) a chemical company focusing on the development of dyes. Alfred Kern and Edouard Sandoz found the company in 1886 but after Kern’s death , a partnership was formed and eventually became a corporation known as Chemische Fabrik vormals Sandoz in 1985. In 1918, Arthur Stoll who is the founder of the Sandoz Pharmaceutical department isolated ergotamine from ergot, this substance was eventually used to treat migrants and headaches via a drug called Gynergen in 1921 which would be vital in the discovery of LSD.

In 1943 Albert Hofmann (1906-2008) synthesized LSD (lysergic acid diethylamide) with Arthur Stoll. This revolutionary compound was marketed and produced for clinical trials. From 1947 to the mid-1960s LSD was created in the labs of Sandoz, and shared around the world for research and development as well as spiritual exploration. The CIA (Central Intelligence Agency) even purchased LSD from Sandoz to conduct their own mind control program called MK Ultra. The drug became a symbol of counter-culture as psychologist and Harvard professor Timothy Leary started promoting it for recreational and spiritual use.

The blotter art pictured here is an old version of the Sandoz logo used during the 60s. Since this time they’ve gone through many mergers and acquisitions and have a new modern logo currently.

What is LSD/Acid?
LSD (lysergic acid diethylamide) or Acid is a potent psychedelic that is made from lysergic acid found in ergot (a fungus that grows on rye and other grains).

Psychedelics can also make the healthy healthier as well.
